The Music Place!

Brass instruments include the trumpet, cornet, trombone, French horn, tuba, euphonium and sousaphone. They are wind instruments which use a length of brass piping which has a "bell" at one end and a mouthpiece at the other. They are great fun to play and learn as they have a bright, dynamic tone and can be played solo or in a brass ensemble, orchestra or band. Brass instruments require the development of good breath control and are excellent for strengthening breathing and expanding the lungs. Brass instruments are very exciting in performance and, in a brass band, can create a beautiful, warm and lustrous sound.

Trumpet

The study of trumpet involves the development of correct posture for playing, breath control, embouchure, finger dexterity and physical coordination. Technical exercises are used to further improve musical understanding and facility on the instrument. Understanding of style, genre and performance techniques are gained through the selection and knowledge of suitable repertoire for each student. Students are encouraged to develop skills as a soloist and also in being part of a larger ensemble.

Trombone

The study of trombone involves the development of correct posture for playing, breath control and embouchure, slide dexterity and physical coordination. There is a further key aural component required in learning the trombone related to positioning of the slide and correct embouchure to create accurate pitch. Technical exercises are used to further improve musical understanding and facility on the instrument. Understanding of style, genre and performance techniques are gained through the selection and knowledge of suitable repertoire for each student. Students are encouraged to develop skills as a soloist and also in being part of a larger ensemble.
