The Music Place!

violin5

The study of stringed instruments invokes learning the violin, viola, 'cello or double bass. These instruments are all wonderful solo instruments and they also can be played in many different types of ensembles - duos, trios, quartet, chamber groups and orchestras. There is a great deal of music composed for string instruments in many different styles - classical, romantic, rock, folk and blues to name a few. Today there are also fantastic electric string instruments available too! String instruments can be learned at a very young age - or at any age! You will develop your technical playing skills along with listening skills, ensemble playing skills and performance skills. You will gain a deep understanding and love of music by learning an instrument from the string family.

Violin

The study of violin involves the development of physical coordination including posture, finger dexterity, bowing, positioning of hands and arms and playing elements relating to style. Technical skills are further enhanced through knowledge and understanding of musicianship, aural perception, tone, genre, style and performance interpretation as appropriate to the instrument. Repertoire which is appropriate to the individual student is chosen and may be related to set examination programs.

Cello

The study of cello involves the development of the aural sense coupled with the kinesthetic sense and coordination, correct positioning of the body, limbs and fingers. Facility of performance is a function of all the above as well as familiarity with musical notation, aural training and musicianship. Appropriate repertoire is chosen by experienced music teachers. The A.M.E.B. Syllabus is a product of very capable and experienced teachers, and can be used to the advantage of the students.
